Vendettas, fierce family pride, resistance fighters dodging the enemy in the maquis – we’re in Corsica in 50 BC. Asterix and Obelix help Chief Boneywasawarriorwayayix to foil the evil designs of Praetor Perfidius and oppose Julius Caesar’s army.

For the only emperor the proud Corsicans will ever accept, so they say, must be Corsican himself …

What the druids have to say about the album

This Asterix adventure was the last to appear in Pilote magazine before publication as an album. And so the banquet at the beginning showing a gathering of characters from previous adventures looks like a sort of inventory sketched by the authors as a veiled message to their readers.

This is one of the most successful albums in the series, featuring among many wonderful previous ones. In France it has always been top of the best-selling Asterix list. It’s a little masterpiece of humour and precision. Corsica was the only destination the authors made a study trip to before getting down to work. The precautions they took have become a reference on the island where, as we all know, everyone has a sense of humour …

It’s worth noting that over a period of 14 years, 880 pages of Pilote would have been devoted to Asterix. For a long time the weekly was even subtitled «The Asterix and Obelix magazine».

Lastly, you may sometimes wonder how Ocatarinetabellatchitchix, the original name of Boneywasawarriorwayayix, has been translated in other languages. Here are a few examples:

  • in German: Osolemirnix
  • in Italian: Ocatarinetabelscicix
  • in Dutch: Wiezewallekristallix.
