Asterix and the Magic Cauldron

MH - «Asterix and the Magic Cauldron» 1987

If there's one thing Obelix can't stand, it's when Getafix reminds him that he fell into the magic potion when he was a little boy, and that's why he is strictly forbidden to imbibe when it is distributed to the village. In short, the Druid's famous lines, "No, Obelix, not you!" already tends to make the greediest of the Gauls somewhat irritable.

In "Asterix and the Magic Cauldron," we learn that Obelix has finally lost his temper with disastrous consequences. Having been refused a sip of the magic potion by Getafix yet another time, Obelix flies into a rage and kicks the cauldron. As everyone knows, Obelix is often unaware of his own might, and the power of this kick is a good example: the cauldron is shattered into eight pieces, seven of which are scattered through unknown destinations far from the Gaulish village.

Getafix manages to save the last few drops of potion in a tiny gourd, warning Asterix that, without the cauldron, he can no longer prepare the magical recipe. The seven missing pieces must be recovered at any price, so that Fulliautomatix can forge a new cauldron. Ready, set, go! The player, who controls Asterix, has five lives in which to find and reassemble the precious pieces of the Magic Cauldron.

Note this bizarre rule which is included in the instructions: the player absolutely has to strike at least once when he finds himself in a combat situation. After that, he is free to run away. But, by Toutatis, why would Asterix ever run away when there's fun to be bashing Romans?
